Amputee Clothing

We are able to adapt most of our clothing items to suit the needs of the individual who has had an amputated limb. If the person has had an amputation of the arm or leg, we will cut the garment to fit the length of the limb or if a prosthetic is being used, we will insert "break away" snaps, zippers or hook and loop closures along the seams to permit access for care. Let us know what your preferences are to make dressing and personal care easier. Tip: Here’s a tip to foster independence in dressing for the person with balance problems due to lower limb amputation. Have the individual gather all items to be worn and then have her/him place the clothing on the bed within easy reach. Next, have her/him sit on the bed while putting on each item. There will be minimal times needed for standing to pull on the pieces of clothing and decrease the chance of a fall. Select from our Women’s Amputee Clothing or Men’s Amputee Clothing categories.

Women’s Amputee Clothing

Choose from our amputee clothes for women based upon the person’s ability to dress herself. The person dresses independently (self dresser) or needs help to dress (assisted dressing).

Women’s Amputee Clothes – Dresses Independently/Self Dresser

  • Floral Zip-Front Knit Dress Do you prefer to wear a dress, but need the sleeve length altered to a certain length? We can do that for you and it usually only adds one day to the order processing time. You may prefer just a hemmed sleeve length on one arm (a free service), or have us create a box pleat, if you wish the opening closed (about a $10 charge). This can be done for any of our dresses and blouses. Just call one of our customer service representatives to discuss exactly what you wish done.

  • Poly Gabardine Slacks If you have a leg amputation and need to access the limb while wearing slacks or sweatpants, we can insert a zipper from the ankle to the level of the lower limb making care a bit easier, or we can insert break away snaps along the entire length of the side seam. Call customer service to explain exactly what you wish done. Simple hemmings are a free service and most other alterations cost between $10-$20.

Women’s Amputee Clothes – Needs help to Dress/Assisted Dressing

  • Long Sleeve Solid Knit Snap Back Dress If you have assistance dressing, you may prefer one of our rear closure dresses. A rear closure dress makes assisted dressing easier for the wearer as well as the caregiver, since the garment is put on from the front and then snapped down the back.
  • A rear closure top is a great option for easy assisted dressing. We have many style and color options and they can all be coordinated to any of our traditional or adaptive pants for perfect outfits.

  • Women's Side-Zip Knit Pants Our side-zip slacks are very helpful to the caregiver who needs to assist the woman with a lower limb amputation in the daily activity of dressing. Bilateral, 22 inch zippers make both dressing and personal care much easier. Side zip pants are also available in our knit pants sets, velour and so-soft sets as well as in our sweatsuits.
