Elderly Apparel

Elderly clothing is a line of clothing that is both age appropriate, easy to wear and easy to care for. As we age, it becomes more difficult to move, stretch, bend and twist, making the process of dressing a bit of a challenge at times. Buck and Buck realizes this, and our business is to make clothing for seniors look good, feel good, and most of all, to make clothing that helps keep the wearer as independent as possible for as long as possible. Loss of independence in the daily task of dressing can be very difficult for aging mothers and fathers, so we place their dignity in the forefront of our designs.

We select fabrics that are comfortable for the elderly to wear with patterns, designs and colors that are appropriate. We choose fabrics that are easy to launder and wear without the need for ironing. Our elderly clothing fits well to the body with waistbands, cuffs and necklines that are comfortable. We use zipper pulls, snaps and buttons that are easy to grasp. Many styles of our elderly clothing have VELCRO® brand closures that will not challenge the individual who has arthritis or weakness in a limb from a stroke. When the elderly need the assistance of a caregiver to get dressed, we have many options of open back and side zip clothing to choose from. Select from our Clothing for the Elderly – Women’s Fashions and Clothing for the Elderly – Men’s Fashions categories below. See out entire catalog for more options.

Senior Clothing

Our clothing for senior citizens is designed for easy dressing, comfort and style while addressing the challenges of potential decreased mobility, need for maintenance of independence and the possible need for assisted dressing.

While many disabled adults find our adaptive garments the solution to their dressing issues, our vast majority of customers are age 80 plus, with a growing number in their 90’s and beyond. We therefore focus on the styles, fabrics, prints and designs that women and men in those age categories seem to prefer. Some of our clothing styles may remind you of your grandmother and grandfather since that is our major consumer population, although some of our fashions like our sweatsuits and separates are popular with all age groups. If you have a specific dressing need, let us know and we will be happy to work with you.

Choose from our wide selection of clothing for seniors according to the person’s dressing needs. The person dresses independently (self dresser) or needs help to dress (assisted dressing). Select from our Senior Clothing for Women or Senior Clothing for Men categories.

Nursing Home Clothing

Buck and Buck has a wide collection of clothing for men and women who live in nursing homes and assisted living settings. Our clothing is stylish, very washable and priced to be affordable for our customers. Our clothing designs are "user friendly". They foster independence in dressing and personal care and provide the caregiver with assisted dressing tools like open back, side zip and hook and loop closure adaptive designs. Note that we will put identification labels in any garment for free. Most nursing homes require that clothing have the individuals name in each item.

Tips: There are many things to consider when choosing clothing for someone who lives in a nursing home, we have provided a checklist for you to use! See the Nursing Home Clothing Checklist below and use it as a tool for shopping.

Nursing Home Checklist

Note: Some of the clothing at home may not be suitable for living in a nursing home. Garments must be washable and be able to withstand the vigorous treatment they get in the commercial washers and driers used in nursing homes. Please keep that in mind as you look through the closets at home. All garments should also be in good repair.

Consider the following when selecting clothing for someone entering a nursing home:

1. Can the individual dress independently or do they need assisted dressing? If they can dress independently, but would benefit from hook and loop front closure garments or zippers with larger tabs or pulls rather than buttons, keep that in mind as you look through their clothing.

2. Have at least 7 days of underwear and socks available. If incontinence is an issue you will need more than 7 days of underwear.

3. Non-skid, easy to wear shoes and slippers are needed.

4. Shirts or blouses that will coordinate with several pair of slacks/skirts.

5. Sweaters and/or fleece cardigans to coordinate with outfits.

6. For the woman, dresses that will go with her sweaters or shawls.

7.Sweatsuits or loose fitting pants if exercise or physical therapy is to be done.

8. Sleepwear and robes that are comfortable for the individual.

9. Slips for the woman.

10. At least one jacket or coat for going outside.

Select from our Women’s Nursing Home Apparel or Men’s Nursing Home Apparel categories. Look for the AD symbol throughout our catalog. This symbol indicates adaptive clothing for the individual who needs help in dressing.

Homecare Clothing

Most seniors wish to remain home for as long as they are able to care for themselves or have someone at home to assist with care. Our clothing designs enable the elderly and adults with handicaps/special needs to dress independently and to assist the individual and the caregiver to carry out the dressing process with the least amount of effort possible. Choose from our wide selection of clothing according to the person’s dressing needs. If the senior is able to dress independently, any of our everyday designs will work well. If the senior needs the assistance of a caregiver to get dressed, then our many adaptive designs will be perfect.

How does this work? Our home care clothing garments have a selection of open back, side zip and hook and loop closure designs that help the home health aide to dress the elderly patient or adult with a handicap/special need while she or he is still in bed or sitting in a chair. This is useful because it causes less tugging and pulling to get the person dressed and also allows access to provide personal care more often. Our garments span the range of underwear to outerwear. Please look through the catalog and make your selections. If you don’t see what you need, contact us.
