Zipper-Pull and Zipper-Loop

We have found that with some creative thinking, we can make dressing easier for many people. An example of a small alteration is the zipper pull. We find we can extend self dressing for many people by adding this small enhancement. It’s best to try and find out if grasping the "pull" would be more beneficial than creating the pull "loop." The pull works perfectly for those who can grasp; the loop for someone who finds it easier to slip a few fingers through the loop and pull the zipper this way.

Visual guide: Here’s an example of how the zipper pull and loop work to assist with dressing.

3 Different Closure Types

If a garment can be opened down the back, it can be fitted with any of the 3 closures shown at the right. We have an expert sewing department on site, so most special alterations are done as each order is filled. If you would like a closure type that is different from the way the garment is offered, just tell our order takers. In many cases we can make the change for a small fee.

Visual guide: Below are the three closure options available for back-opening garments.

Short Sleeve Conversions

It is so easy for us to cut and hem anything, including sleeves. My father likes our nightshirts, but prefers a short sleeve. No problem.

VELCRO® Brand Fastener Fly Conversion

Since this is a much more labor intensive alteration, we add $10.00 to the cost of the pants. It is one of our most popular, as it allows the wearer to open and close his fly without having to deal with a zipper, and, in many cases, keeps him self-sufficient.

Visual guide: Replaces the zipper with a Velcro® fastener for easier opening and closing.

Free Hemming

We are happy to hem slacks to the desired length at no charge. Please indicate the desired inseam length in the pull-down menu or enter your instructions in the "comments" box when placing your order.

If it is not convenient for you to measure the person, take a pair of pants that fit well. Measure from the crotch seam to the bottom of the pants. We hem to your inseam for free!

Please note: Inseams shorter than 28" are non-returnable, so if you need them this short, you may want to just start with one pair to make sure they fit. The sitting inseam – if the person being measured must remain seated - may be difficult to locate, in which case, add 2" to your measurement to allow for gathered fabric.

If you are not sure and need help estimating an inseam, please visit our 'How To Determine an Inseam' article from the Sizing & Fit section of the Help & Resources hub.

Free Labeling

For nursing home residents

In nursing homes and assisted living facilities, making sure clothing gets back to the correct closet after laundering is crucial. To make this easier for everyone involved, we often produce and attach a heat seal label to any garment upon request at no charge. These labels are printed in indelible ink and then heat sealed to the garment to insure they will not fade or wash off, regardless of the laundry temperature or number of washes. You may specify a person’s name or any other identifying text you wish to appear on the label.

Please note that labeled items are not returnable. To learn more, visit our 'Returns & Refunds' article from the Policies section of the Help & Resources hub.

Gift Wrapping

We are happy to soft-wrap (no box) any order for $10. When you reach the checkout, you’ll see the gift wrap option. Indicate the appropriate paper—Christmas, Mother’s Day, Birthday, Hanukkah, etc. Wrapping includes decorative paper, ribbon, and the recipient’s name handwritten on a hang tag.

If several items have been ordered for one person, we will combine them into one gift wrap package whenever possible.

For caregivers or nursing facility staff ordering for multiple residents, we offer a variety of wrapping paper designs, making it easy to personalize each package.
