Indicates adaptive design. The loose, comfortable style of our muu muu dress has always been very popular. This style dress has its origins in Hawaii. It was originally a shorter version of the Mother Hubbard dress worn by the Protestant missionaries in the 1820's. The native Hawaiians called the dress a holoku and as it gained popularity the style was simplified, cut shorter and became the muu muu dress that we know today! In keeping with its origins, our muu muus come in a wide variety of prints and colors. The traditional muu muu is pulled on very easily over the head. No buttons, zippers or snaps, but we also have a collection of open back muu muus for the woman who has a disability and needs help to dress.
The open back muu muus are made to be put on the woman as she is seated in a chair or lying on her bed. The muu muu is opened completely down the back and the woman's arms are placed into the sleeves. If she is seated in a chair, the muu muu is then pulled up over the shoulders and the snaps closed down the back. If the woman is in bed, turn her onto her back and place her arms into the sleeves, then smooth the front of the muu muu in place. Tuck the sides of the muu muu slightly under her back and turn her to one side. Gently pull one side of the garment into place and then turn the woman to the other side and do the same thing. Close the snaps while she is on one side.
